General Information

Homework

Homework will be sent home on a Friday in homework books to be returned to school the following Wednesday.  Alternatively work can be uploaded on SEESAW.  If for any reason your child has a problem with any aspect of the homework, please let us know prior to due date so that we can explain it again or complete it in school.

Homework will include:

-Spellings will be sent home in spelling books and be tested on a Wednesday.

-Times tables which will be tested weekly on Fridays.

-a written piece/ maths piece based on our learning that week

and of course reading

Your help with reading, spellings, times tables and homework is greatly appreciated.

Times tables

Learning times tables is particularly important for Y4 as they will be sitting the MTC (national multiplication times table test) in June, where they are expected to have mastered all their times tables up to and including the 12 times table.

We practise our times tables regularly and use Times tables Rockstars to help us improve our fluency. Children have their own log ins and can practise both at school and at home, click the link below to find out more about using the website at home.

Reading

It is vital to be reading each and every night. Sometimes it can seem tricky to choose a book that you enjoy reading, if this is a problem for you it can be handy to use the BookTrust Book Finder website or talk to us at school.  We have compiled a list of some suggested books but feel free to let us know of others you have enjoyed so we can add them to the list.

All reading done in class, whether individual or group, will be recorded in your child’s Reading Record Book. Please continue to record any reading you do with your child in the book too. This covers any book you read with your child whether it’s a school book, library book or their own book from home. Don’t forget to sign the reading map in the back of the reading diary.

PE Kit

Getting out and getting moving is so important.

We have 2 timetabled PE sessions a week (one taught by Mrs Morgan and one from Shrewsbury Town in the Community) as well as our usual Monday Mile

Your child can come to school on PE days in their PE kits (white/ pale blue shirt and navy/black shorts or joggers and trainers)
If your child wears earrings please can they be removed on these days or have tape to cover them up. If your child cannot take part in P.E please let us know.

We will also be having Forest School sessions on Friday afternoons later in the year (details to follow)

Dinners

If your child is having school dinners, please book online via the app.

Snack

Children can bring a healthy snack to eat at break time. It makes a huge difference to children’s performance levels between 11-12 p.m.  The children may also bring a healthy snack to eat in the afternoon.

Water bottles

Please bring a named water bottle to school every day, especially on P.E days.

Seesaw

Seesaw is a key form of communication in Willow class, on which messages and reminders are shared as well as work and photos of our adventures uploaded. Please check frequently, logins are in the front of homework books.
