FOREST SCHOOL
At West Felton CE. primary school we value the wonderful world in which we live and aim to use the outdoor environment to enhance every aspect of our curriculum.
We are fortunate to have access to a wonderful outdoor environment that provides a natural extension to our classrooms. Regular opportunities are planned, for all classes, to incorporate outdoor teaching designed to help stimulate and enthuse our children’s imaginations and facilitate their learning across the curriculum.
Forest School learning takes the form of regular, weekly sessions which are delivered over an extended time period (each class has a half term block) The visits to our school grounds afford opportunities for children to participate in a range of activities and games.
Over time, our sessions aim to enhance the self-esteem of each child and help to encourage them to become confident, independent learners who are enthusiastic, capable and willing to use their own initiative.
As the learning occurs outdoors, participants have the opportunity to learn about, respect and appreciate the natural environment. It is intended that this will help to foster in children an understanding of their local environment and also aid in establishing a concern within them regarding the future sustainability of our natural world.
Please read our parents information letter below to find out more about this holistic approach and practical advice on sessions and clothes.
